Q: Does the Fakespot Extension “Read and Change Your Data on a Number of Websites”?
A: Yes to read and No to change.
Yes, the Fakespot Extension needs to read the web address of the site you are on in order to provide an analysis when a USER requests via the click of the extension button.
No, the Fakespot Extension does NOT CHANGE any data you see on the web page. Google considers any requests, re-directs or pop-ups as a “Change”, hence the wording.
Q: Does the Fakespot Extension “Read Your Browsing History”
A: No, the Fakespot Extension DOES NOT read your browsing history. The Fakespot Extension can only be initiated by the USER, for the current page the USER is browsing; it does not go into the browsing history. Google considers your current page as “your browsing history”, hence the wording.
Q Does the Fakespot Extension “Know Your Email Address?”
A: No. This is a request by Google Payment, if a user chooses to upgrade to the new Fakespot Plus Extension which costs $1.99 per month subscription. Google Payment alerts Fakespot as to the email address so that a receipt may be generated for both sides for record keeping.
